Megan Murphy

Without a doubt, Miss Megan was literally raised on bluegrass music. At only a few months old her parents took her to her first bluegrass festival, Renfro Valley Kentucky. At the age of just 5 she found an interest in the fiddle. She began to learn and play with her father, but only for a short while. Although she didn’t stick with the fiddle long, she certainly did not lose interest of the music. When Miss Megan was 10 years old she saved up her own money and purchased and F5 Kentucky Mandolin at the same festival, Renfro Valley. She finally picked it up and starting playing at the age of 12. It was soon after she developed a Monroe style and sound. The family began getting booked for gigs and festivals, and realized they needed an official band name. Being from Ohio and traveling in the south, “it was only normal to be called a Yankee” Megan jokes. Megan Murphy and Yankee Bluegrass seemed natural! Bluegrass music has taken Mandolinist Megan Murphy down many roads. She has played and performed with many Legends such as Dr. Ralph Stanley, The Grascals, Mountain Heart, Mike Compton, James King and many more! In 2004 Little Roy Lewis informed Miss Megan of Glenville State College. She was fortunate to receive a Bluegrass Scholarship in 2006. Recently she has completed the Bluegrass Certificate at Glenville State College, and is now a full time sophomore majoring in Elementary Education.

Dusty Murphy

Dusty Murphy was born in Pineville Kentucky, and later raised where he now makes his home, Glouster, Ohio. At a very young age, he and his family were entertaining folks with country music at festivals, churches, and radio shows such as, the Sunday Morning Gathering at Renfro Valley Kentucky. Now he is found laying down strong guitar rhythm for the band, and some tight vocal harmony as well.

Elaine Murphy

Elaine Murphy of Glouster, Ohio was indeed too surrounded by music as a child. Her family’s roots come from Kentucky, where the true bluegrass lives. Elaine never misses a beat on the upright bass, and brings joy to the family band as well. A unique individual “Shorty” Hobbs was her great, great uncle on her father’s side. He was famous for many radio shows, one in particular at Renfro Valley Kentucky, being an original member of the Callahan Cowboys and also on many first recordings with Pee Wee King.
